Fancy Antique Auction

A few weekends ago we headed south the Lawrenceburg for an antique auction. My friend Thomas, who went with us to our first auction, is addicted and keeps an eye on the listings. There wasn't really anything in the listing that I really wanted, but it is fun to go and watch!
One thing that kind of sucks about auctions is you have NO IDEA when the stuff you are interested in will go up. It could be 8 hours after the auction starts. I wanted to see how much that lion buggy banner went for, but they were probably hours away from that section when we left.
I liked this fancy shelving unit.
The auction was mostly antique furniture, including some really beautiful Victorian stuff (that went for BIG money). I mostly liked all the old advertising stuff. They had a really cool cigar store Indian! All this stuff was at the very back though, so we didn't see any of it up on the block.
We watched for a few hours. Thomas big on a Victorian piano at one point, but didn't win. It was pretty thrilling! There was one lady in the front whose bill must have been up to $50,000 by the time we left! We figured she had to be a dealer.
We walked down the little main street in the town to check out the old signs.
I kind of love the name of this shop! To bad it wasn't open.
TWe didn't end up buying anything at the auction, but the day wasn't a total bust. We stopped by this little flea market (which was mostly terrible) and Travis got a pretty sweet vintage western shirt!

Game Night!

For years a group of my friends has gotten together almost every Tuesday night at some bar around town for bar trivia. Everyone seems to be really busy lately, and it hasn't happened as often. A few Tuesdays ago we changed it up and some of the group came over to my house for a throw back game night! We had three games on the table, including a Saved by the Bell Game, and Girl Talk, but we ended up only playing the gem that is Hearth Throb! Do yourself a favor and check out the incredible commercial:

You might have seen Kimmie's post about it, she is the one that brought it over, and let me tell you, it did NOT disappoint!

The idea of the game is to guess who your friends would have a crush on based on the photos and traits. You start out looks only, then with each round you learn more about your prospective soul mate. I think we ended up playing 6 rounds! It was so fun we didn't even need to change it up. There was a short karaoke break in the middle though.
I liked making everyone pose with their chosen date
Ryan was VERY good at the game. He won almost every round!
I think this might have been Kimmie's face upon learning that one of the potential suitor's bad habit was "his fly is always down." Some of the other bad habits were "Is always whining about something" (we all thought that was terrible) or "has warts on his back" (which was a deal breaker for everyone but Ryan, who said "Warts can be removed!")
Danny there turned out to be a hot commodity. No only was his nickname "Muffin" you can see he can't wait to get married and have a whole bunch of kids. I feel like there was also something about him wanting to skateboard across America. Or was that the guy who was "A hopeless romantic and prone to falling in love." The makers of this game really know how to get to the heart of 10 year old girls!
IT was a pretty great night. And made me want to start having people over again. I'm already planning my next game night!

What I Brought Home From The World's Longest Yard Sale!

And now the moment you've all been waiting for! Ha! Here is what we brought home from the World's Longest Yard Sale! I felt like I got way less than last year, but comparing it to last year's picture it seems about the same. Check it out!
I got two flocked reindeer for a quarter each! The little fawn lamp is so sweet. I put it on my bedside table. It is perfect for reading late at night when Travis has already gone to sleep. I'm on the lookout for a small fiberglass shade for it.
I got a few pairs of salt and pepper shakers for my collection, just like last year. Elsie and Elmer are so cute. Elsie is one of my favorite advertising mascots of all time! You can see the peanut shakers we got there to the right.
I have been wanting a set of cute cows like this forever! I see them a lot, but never at a price I liked. I'm glad to finally have this cute pair.
Poodles of course! i can't resist this style especially.
And you know I couldn't resist this little homemade guy with the rhinestone eyes.
This mug is pretty much all Travis bought. He said he used to go to Druther's when he was a kid. Under the mug is a milk glass mixing bowl. I had been looking for a bowl that size.
I really didn't see many dream pets this year. But I couldn't resist this little guy from Six Flags over Georgia! What a cute souvenir! I need to cut that ragged ribbon off him.
I didn't realize how much I loved old trophies before. The taller one is for Miss Chattanooga in the Miss America pageant system. The little one supposedly belonged to a cowboy who participated in rodeos until he was 85! I love how the plastic horse looks on top. It will look good with my collection of old horse books.
A close up on pretty Miss America.
It is hard to get a good photo of this dish, but isn't it pretty? I try to store all our food in glass instead of plastic, so I'm always on the lookout for good looking glass storage pieces.
This is a sheet of temporary tattoos from the 1950's! The vendor who had this actually sells at the Nashville Flea Market and I've almost bought a sheet of these so many times! I finally bit the bullet. I plan on framing them for my wild west guest room.
I bought that big photo of the baby for the frame. I love the black and gold floral detail. I'm going to put a photo from my collection in it, I just haven't decided which yet.
Speaking of photos, I brought home a BUNCH. Including a large tinted one!
I mostly brought home dog photos, as usual. With a few Christmas, Halloween, photobooth, and vacation photos sprinkled in there. I'll scan some and show you the highlights another day!
I found this sweet little album as well! It is totally blank, and I'll fill it with some of my photos! It is hard to read in this photo, but it says "Snaps" on the front! I've seen these before, but not one with a dog on the cover. It couldn't be more perfect.
And last but not least, our last purchase of the weekend! I found this fiberglass shade hanging from a rope in a tent. The lady didn't even make me barter, she came way down on the price before I even said I was interested! I have been looking for a shade like this to go with the masonic temple lamp I bought at an estate sale last month.
Here it is in action! Perfection!
Notice the fancy cat hole in my blinds. Haha. I keep saying I'll replace those, but really, what is the point?
I feel pretty happy about what we brought home this year! We even came in under budget!

World's Longest Yard Sale: Part Four!

Here is one last post about the sale itself, then I'll show you what I brought home! We ended up on Signal Mountain near Chattanooga. Funny enough, this big field full of vendors was our last stop last year. It is a pretty great last hurrah!
I forgot to get some pulled back shots to show you what it looked like. This is a pretty good example.
I LOVE that Sun Crest sign! How great would that look on my wall? Maybe one year we'll save up and buy a big old sign. This one wasn't as expensive as we expected. I think it was around 700 dollars. It was hand painted. I love the colors!
I loved that jester painting too.
I bought this great Miss America trophy! How could I resist? Brett did a great job modeling it for me.
You know I can't resist taking a photo of an old baby doll bed with decals. How cute is the blue deer?
The guy we bought our squirrel from last year had a black squirrel this year! Isn't he cute?
We convinced Thomas to buy this Shriner hat. I love it! LOOK at that tassel! Pretty majestic. I think he is going to be a Shriner for Halloween. We were ready to head back after this (and we had to pick up the pugs) so we headed into Chattanooga and had lunch at the Mellow Mushroom. It really hit the spot after a long day in the sun. We got the vegan cheese of course. Mmmmm, I love their pizza so much!
So there you have it! Year two of the World's Longest Yard Sale! I'm sure we'll be back next year, and for many to come! I'll come back tomorrow and show you what I brought home! I got some pretty great stuff!

World's Longest Yard Sale: Part Three!

We didn't start as early on the second day, which was nice. I will be honest, after the LONG HOT day we had Saturday, I was a little over the sale. I had a headache and a sunburn and felt a little sick. I actually think I had mild sun poisoning! But a good dinner and some rest was all I needed to be back in the mood on Sunday! Here we are at our first stop. Or maybe our second?
TIP! If you end up at the sale, and are looking for vintage, the best use of your time is pulling up to the big fields full of vendors. Stopping at individual yard sales takes a LONG time, and from experience, they usually don't have the kind of stuff I'm looking for.
 photo stolen from rosemary
That big painting in the middle was there last year! I love it!
I thought for sure there would be something good among all this glassware, but there was nothing!
 More pyrex!
Hmmmm. I'm not sure how useful this would actually be.
I couldn't decide if the lollypop clown was cute or creepy.
You know I love old taxidermy. I didn't bring any little friends home this year though.
 Cutest little stoves.
This creative censoring made us laugh.
Pretty cute little grab bag! You can't see it really, but there is a tiny gold fawn in there too.
Cute vintage poodle buddy stuck in with all the M+M stuff.
Hmmm. Seems legit.
