Storm Damage

so you know how there have been crazy storms destroying stuff all over the south lately? we got our share of it last night. thankfully it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

the window right behind the tree is our bedroom window, our bed is right against the window. i'm so happy the tree didn't fall in on us while we were sleeping.

i can't believe it! it didn't even wake us up. travis texted me at work to tell me because i didn't look in the backyard before i left for work. and somehow it didn't destroy anything, not the fence, or the grill or the neighbors tree or the power line that runs right next to it. travis is going to take it apart with some friends and haul it away soon. sad, because i really liked that tree. it was huge!

the girls are doing well too. priscilla had a followup vet visit, her ear infection moved into her other ear (but it's almost gone in the first ear! and i think she can hear!) and she has a respiratory infection that is down in her lungs. poor thing. but she is on some antibiotics and will hopefully be better soon.

phyllis is the same as always. a grumpy little thing. they are starting to play together which is almost unbearably cute. and now every morning when i go get them from their room they are cuddled up in the same bed. bffs.

and i planted some basil and it is actually growing!!! i hope i can get it to eatin' size!

grand opening

so our new store opened this week. yesterday actually. i feel like i shouldn't be that tired but i really am wiped out. i've been working on the same load of laundry for 3 days. i just can't get up the energy to fold it and hand it up all at once. so i have nothing exciting to report.

the old store closed when we opened this new one and we had an employee shopping night where everything was 40% off. we really stocked up, plus we've gotten lots of free stuff lately so hopefully we won't have to buy groceries for a while. i'm having that problem where we have so much food available i never know what to make. which really isn't a bad problem to have.

i know this is dark but i had to show you what i see whenever i get up off the couch. both pugs run as close to the edge as i can get and sometimes bark and cry until i come back. even though they can both get down off the couch. priscilla goes back to the vet for her follow up tomorrow to see if her ear drums are intact. she still doesn't seem to be able to hear us so i don't have much hope for them.

Estate Sale Loot

it has been rainy and grey for the past few days. i keep waiting for the sun to come out so i can take some pictures, but i couldn't wait any longer to show you some of the goodies i got at the estate sales this past week. the best part is pretty much everything here was 10 cents to 2 dollars!

more thread in a cute case! and some needle point! a really cute table cloth!

cute pencil box full of tiny rulers. i love rulers.

my deer! this was one of a set. the set the lady who was running the sale though crystal and i stole. a collar (i thought it was fake fur because it was on the dollar rack but now i don't know and it's kind of creeping me out) a juice pitcher and a syrup container.

a few of the towels i got! i've been pining away for some floral towels and had no luck at thrift stores. so when i found piles of them at one of the estate sales i was beside myself!

vintage christmas! my favorite! poinsettia table cloth, silly christmas mail box, a weird santa tree topper with light up action, some vintage gift tags! i might make the table cloth into a tree skirt.

two aprons! 50 cents each! i don't know why i didn't take a picture that was easier to understand.

and another shot of my new couch! i'm having a hard time figuring out how to photograph it. it has a strange texture that i think makes it look dirty in photos. it's sitting in our living room in front of our other couch for now until we figure out how to get rid of the old one. the cats love it. all three of them sit on it, while we sit on the other couch with the dogs. so cute. it's like we're all at a play or something.

linking up with her library adventure and apron thrift girl as usual.

Senior Art Crawl

a few nights ago we went on the belmont senior art show art crawl thing. because our friend meredith's show was up! she did a series of dresses inspired by nature and she really went above and beyond what you usually see from a school project. she really blew me away.

i got crystal and travis to pose fashion blog style.

do you like our matching glasses? one day we will merge into the same person. and on that day maybe we will make normal faces in photos.
people's stuff was spread out and we were having a hard time finding meredith. so we were walking past this window and were like "ooooo more food!!" so we ran in to get some baklava and it just happened to be the place we were looking for. puurrrfect.
beautiful gowns.
and there the lovely lady is! and there is crystal wishing she was wearing that dress. i wish she could have made my wedding dress for me!
here are some photos my buddy brett took of the dresses for her. so lovely. i definitely have some talented friends.

I love estate sales

i've been trying to go to some estate sales this year, and yesterday i finally remembered the check around online and find two that looked promising. (i like ones where the people lived in the house for 50+ years, and with piles of stuff in the photos). crystal happened to be off for most of the day and came with me. it was a pretty perfect day.

the bed was piled with vintage linens. two vintage christmas aprons for a dollar? don't mind if i do. i got a very cute embroidered table cloth especially made for a little sewing table too! i've been too overwhelmed at work to take pictures but i'm going to tomorrow.

i love wallpaper. and ribbons. and weird worm family portrait shirts? haha.

the guy apparently used to make bowling trophies. i wish i could have thought of a cool use for the pieces. i didn't take many pictures down there because the lady running the estate sale thought we stole these vintage animal cut outs. it was annoying, she was being really obvious and i almost told her to go through my bag so she would stop it.

all the clothes were a dollar! crystal got this cute dress with puppy embroidery! it fascinates me because it's so childish but it's long and big enough for an adult/older teenager. we also got floral mumu's. and i got a fake fur collar.
after the first sale we stopped by one near my house i found on craigslist while i was up with insomnia the night before. i wasn't sure if it would be good or not but thought what the heck, it's close by. by the time we walked up and found a table covered in vintage sheets...

we were squealing! wait until i show you the towels! oh man, so exciting!

got plaid shirts for travis. a buck a piece.

here are the piles we were making! haha, they kept laughing at how excited we were.

apparently someone fell through the ceiling while they were cleaning out the attic.

after an old man loaded up the car (and called us honeys) i forced crystal to lunch at istanbul.
my currant obsession.

while we waited for our food we talked about all the awesome stuff we found and how much fun we had. we talked about how i should become a reseller because i have toooo much stuff. maybe i'll try etsy. do you like our matching glasses? i need a bang trim so those can match again.

mmm falafel (as always)

she said her gyro was really good.
after lunch i drove her home. we tried on our new outfits...

very flattering. that truck belongs to her across the street neighbors! so weird!

i left her with her stuff and ran to escape the cicadas that were everywhere. it was so nasty, they are ALL over the front of her house. you feel like they are waiting for you to come out.
when i got home i told travis about our adventure and no sooner had i said "there was a cool sleeper sofa" than he jumped in the car to see it.

so we have a new (old) sofa! sadly the awesome one we currently have is soooooo saggy and uncomfortable now. i'll probably cry when we haul it away. but the new one is cute and has a bed (for overnight guests!) and it sat in the room no one used so it's not really worn at all. the cats love it already.

Cicada Attack!

so i don't know how many of you are experiencing this too, because i'm not sure the range of these things, but it's 13 year cicada time in tennessee.

i can vaguely remember the last time this happened (1998). these nasty bugs live in the ground for 13 years, then once the temperatures reach 67 degrees for a whole week the grubs come out of the ground, burst out of their exskeleton, then sit around and sing loudly for 4 to 6 weeks, mate, and then die. after 13 years! and they are so nasty!

there are at least a thousand little shells on and around that tree in our backyard.

and all over the bushes.

there is a hatched one! black with red eyes! they are WHITE when they first come out. like maggots. they are so sick and big (2 inches long?) and they will fly right into you. they are attracted to buzzing noises so if you mow the grass they swarm you. it freaks me out just to think about it. hopefully they will all be dead by the time it's warm enough for us to go to rock island. sick. i'll be staying inside until they are gone.

but i am tempted to buy something from cicada invasion.

EDIT: i forgot to say that a girl at work today told me some people FREEZE THEM and EAT THEM or give them to their dogs as TREATS???!!! NASTY. that makes me want to puke.
