The Porter Flea!

I'm so happy the Nashville finally has a cool craft show! I would love to go to Renegade or the Bust Craftacular, but it is too far for a day trip. This is the 3rd Porter Flea and it just keeps getting better! It was PACKED! I'm so glad they had the summer one inside this year. It made it much more pleasant. Here are some of the sights I saw:
Little Things Studio
Honeybean Mobile Botique: This made me really want a trailer! Just to hang out in. I don't know how I would survive without air conditioning though.
This Oktipus Printing Company: This letterpress company is based in Nashville and their invitations were so beautiful!
Laura Baisden Here prints are all hand carved and letter pressed. Totally gorgeous.
Nashpop: Made me want to spray paint all my stuff!
Tuft Design: Is that a party dress or what! And that cat pillow is so cute! Speaking of cute, my friend Brittany came with me. I'm in love with that red dress!
Straw Castle: I LOVE his prints. They were so inexpensive too! I bought the Elvis Frankenstein, and one of a hatchet for Travis.
Arcade Death: I am obsessed with this guys work. I loved pretty much every single thing he was selling. I'm usually cheap and only let myself by really inexpensive prints but decided to treat myself and get one of his pieces on wood. I'll show you at the bottom!
I had never seen this food truck before! Look at the cute Nashville skyline.
I wanted to eat there, but they didn't have any vegetarian options. Bummertime.
But at least Pizza Buds was there! I looooooooove them.
See those brown lumps? That is brown sugar. YUM.
We got Jeni's ice cream. Bramble berry crunch. Delicious. BUT overpriced. 5 bucks for one tiny scoop? Geeze louise!
Here is what I got. Mostly prints of course, even though I have no business buying more art for my walls. The Teeth, Shaun of the Dead, and the Nashville print are by Tim Cook.  The pretty vintage lady is from The Clearance Sale. I just can't resist cute art!
I bought the owl brooch from the Honeybean.
I didn't take a picture, but this little notebook and card were from Your Secret Admiral.
The pages inside are a mix of all kinds of papers. I really love it! I can't decide what to use it for. It has to be good! The tooth card is for a special someone! (Who I have quite a little pile of stuff to send to them. Maybe I'll be good and send it soon.)
And here is my Arcade Death print! It is silkscreened and painted onto a piece of wood! I really really love it. I haven't decided where to put it yet. Right now it is on my mantle so I can stare at it all night while I'm messing around on the computer.
I didn't buy anything from them, but I liked Family Tree Design: I love the Stowaway print, and all their monsters! Especially Chupacabra. I just couldn't justify one more print!
I also bought a shirt from Mary Ink: I bought this shirt. I love it! There is no picture of it because I was wearing it while I took these pictures.
Hopefully they will do the market again before Christmas this year. If you are in Nashville you better come out and support it! I love seeing all the local and regional artists there!

Always a dog party around here.

Chloe stayed with us again this weekend! Is it dorky that I LOVE it when people ask me to watch their dog? If you are in town, I'd love to hang out with your dog! My payment is getting to pet them. Haha. When Chloe is around Phyllis and Priscilla are much more active, and they actually play with their toys.  Look at these cuties! Chloe likes to make herself a little nest wherever she is.

Oh Phyllis.
I love Priscilla's ears. They are so silly.
I love getting my dachshund fix! We were actually planning on getting a dachshund when we started looking for a dog, but my heart got stolen by pugs.

Thrift Report!

I haven't been thrifting very much lately. The shop that used to be my favorite has started pricing things way too high, so I only ever go to the Goodwill Outlet. And I just can't handle that every day! Like I mentioned a few days ago, I have always really loved Noah's Ark. The cute image with the giraffes is just the front cover of a vintage book, but I couldn't leave it behind! And check out how cute that mouse needle point is!

Have you ever read Maya Angelou's series of autobiographies? I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings is the first and most well known, but there are a bunch, and they are so good! She has lead a pretty incredible life! I love the cover of this edition!
Could that rabbit puppet be any more terrifying? This craft book from the 1970's is pretty incredible! There are lots of strange crafts, and even a chapter on things to make using the "gifts of mama Earth." I need some little kids to craft with!
I picked up this daily reminder book because I love the layout of the pages inside, and it is still pretty full. But I really love the little message inside! Check it out:
"(Reverie) of an idle mind
Well-looks like this is just about the end, don't it? By the way, don't forgot to remind me to remember my resolution, promise?
1. Never make below a pass
2. Behave myself.
3. Get out of all my exams
4. ____________ There are exceptions to all rules (Just trying to be funny)
I really mean it. What???? OH-H-H-H----I knew it."

and then under the other pad it says
" I did better than I thought.
By the way I'm not loaning any pencils this year, like last, I think I must have supplies the whole school. I think I might save a small fortune in pencil money"
I'm really excited about this Hawaiian party book! One of my 30 before 30 goals is to plan a fancy dinner party, and I think I have my theme!
I love this tip. "If you are lucky enough to have more than one lei, wear them all happily and proudly, as the girl in the drawing is doing."
I will definately make this centerpiece! Complete with pipe cleaner palm trees! I have the perfect bamboo tray to use! There are tons of crazy recipes and games and things, so stay tuned!
A few more things. Travis showed me the picture of the cats on the couch as a joke, but I love it! (Obviously). Another box purse with some hand painted mushrooms. I haven't carried one of these yet, but they are cute! The gremlin books have little records. I think we'll finally have a (working) record player soon, and I can't wait to listen to these!
This little red riding head book is so freaking cute! I love her glasses! She looks like Harry Potter's little sister. And the wolf is adorable too.
I also found this PERFECT burlap growth chart! I love the Australia theme!
So gorgeous!
Travis found a Lite Brite and I asked if I could play with it before he put it up on ebay. I want to get the ET kit! I remember getting a Lite Brite for Christmas one year. I can still smell the burning plastic smell it makes when plugged in.
I also found this baby book, copyright 1960. The inside pages are perfect and none written on. The illustrations are so beautiful! I'm going to save it to give to a vintage loving friend when they have a baby. I love the colors on this family tree page:
And of course there is a poodle!
Last but not least, I had to include this because we NEVER find dvds in the cases at the outlet, much less a Disney dvd! And it works! The only time we ever found a dvd before was something lame, maybe City of Angels? Haha.
Have you found anything awesome lately? Are your local thrift stores pricing all the cool stuff to high?

Movies in the Park!

One my favorite things to do in Nashville in the summer is the movies in the park series that the Nashville Scene does! They moved the location this year, it is no longer near the Parthenon. Which I like because you no longer have to worry about gun shots going off during the movie (happened two years ago! Ah!) The movie list isn't great this year, but I still love sitting outside to watch movies. My favorite they ever did was Dirty Dancing! It was perfect!
We got some freshly made kettle corn and settled in on this awesome blanket that I got at a craft swap. I can't believe someone was getting rid of it!
My friend Ryan always likes to bring an appropriate pez dispenser. Obviously, this week the movie was Shrek. Ryan has a pretty impressive pez collection, check it out here!
This picture makes it look like there weren't a lot of people. but it was PACKED! We didn't get there until almost 8, and we still got a good spot though. This week the movie is Breaking Dawn! haha, I can't wait!

Some vintage finds!

Here is what I ended up with from the estate sale and yard sales we went too! First up, here is what I got at the one estate sale we went too. Even though I didn't find a ton of stuff, it really love what I found, AND bonus! Nothing in this picture was over 3 bucks!
I see these cute teak vikings online in mid-century homes, but hadn't even see one in the wild.
Have I ever mentioned how much I love Noah's Ark? I've been trying to resist mugs since our cabinet is already overflowing, but I couldn't resist this gem. You can see the rain clouds, the ostriches, and the elephants in the first picture.
Like I said before, I have always loved this vase. I've seen a few in antique malls and online, but hadn't come across one at a price I liked. This one isn't in perfect shape, but I love it! How sweet is that doe nuzzling her baby?
Chalk pekinese! I bought a big carnival chalk squirrel a few years back, then said I would start collecting chalk prizes, but then stopped seeing them. I was happy to find this cute guy!
And this sweet little spun cotton head Santa. He was tucked into a box on a bookshelf, I can't believe I found him! And they gave him to me for free. Which is exciting even if it is tiny.
And here is what we got from the yard sales we went too! Most of this is from one sale. The horse box purse was from a sale where we also got a brand new juicer. The lady was like "Well, I have two more so I decided to sell this one." For ten bucks! It still has the Macy's return sticker on it. So weird.
A sweet perpetual calendar, a silly santa toy (you shake it and the chain makes different shaped noses) and a stack of made in Japan santa mugs! Last year I was lamenting that I couldn't find any of these around town, but I've been finding quite a few lately. These were just 10 cents a piece!
Here is that monkey again. He reminds me of Phyllis with those bulging black eyes!
We got this game at the sale with the 2000 dollar bedroom set. It is part of a series of games that you can line up on your bookshelf. We have Stocks and Bonds already and like it, so we thought we'd give this one a chance.
AND! A few days later we went to the Tennessee Antique Mall to sign up for my booth and I found these beauties! How funny, I've been wishing for a poodle bottle cover for almost a year with no luck, and now I've found 4 in the past 6 weeks! I love this guys crazy puffy face.
