Estate Sale Report

A few weeks ago I saw a listing for an estate sale coming up that looked promising. 50 year accumulation, mid century furniture, basement full of boxes, collection after collection. It literally had a hard time sleeping the night before because I was so excited. Travis and I got there about an hour before the sale opened, and we were still about 20th in line! We got to meet Jamie of Owl Really while we were in line! Finally!

We got let in with the second batch of people. Sadly it didn't live up to the hype. Don't get me wrong, there was some great stuff, but not as much as I had hoped, and it was priced pretty high. Look at that pink canister set!
I loved this green one too. But I really don't need one.
I always love seeing old mattresses like this. So pretty!
They had some great pennants, but at 8 bucks each I passed them up.
The promised basement full of boxes to dig through was the most disappointing part. There were a few boxes, mostly full of romance novels. There was a great dinette set for 75 bucks, but again, I don't need it. There was a LOT of Christmas stuff, but none of it was vintage.
Travis picked out this metal shelf. He is going to use it to display his first aid collection. He has already cleaned it and painted it! I can't wait to show you how it turned out!
Here is a little sneak peek at what I got. I'll show you the rest later this week! I LOVE the colors on that paint by number! I usually don't pick up landscapes but I just couldn't resist that pink and blue.
After we left there was still quite a line!
We drove alllll the way across town to another sale because I had seen this dog portrait in the listing. I was so happy it was still there!! I paid more than I would have liked for it, but i really love it, the frame is really nice, and the guy who was running the sale gave me 25% off since I was so excited about it.
Here  are a few other things from that sale that I liked but didn't get.
Squirrel quilt! This was 65 bucks, so it wasn't hard to resist.
Really cool wallet. I actually kind of regret not getting this now.
It was full of great old pictures.

  1. I'm in love with that squirrel quilt! Way too expensive though. It sucks when you find etsy prices at an estate sale. That wallet is awesome too! Sometimes I kick myself for not buying something in life but look at it this way, there will always be more! :)

    1. yes, i don't find much awesome stuff at the thrifts, i think there are to many resellers and cool people in nashville. i love traveling way out of town for estate sales put on by the family, you always get the best deals that way!

  4. I love the paint by numbers! (For the same reasons you do. The colors really pop.) It is so damn dried up on Estate Sales 'round here lately. I hope some crop up soon. Well, except usually someone has to die first. Oy. :( No bueno.

    1. yeah, that is the thing with estate sales, i just try to think of it as their stuff moving on to someone who will really love it. I can't wait for the summer when there are five to six sales a day to go to! i've got the itch bad!

  5. Wow prices seem a little high at your estate sales, we have one or two companies here that are expensive but most have low prices. I LOVE that wallet (too bad you didn't get it!)and the adorable dog photo. I hate when sales are overhyped, usually I judge it by the posted photos (on estatesales.net) but it's always hard to tell the condition of items/prices beforehand.

    1. yes, this was the first time i had gone to one of these companies sales on the first day. they had all this modern (UGLY) christmas stuff for 5 bucks an item! insane. my favorite are the sales put on by the family, you always get the best deals then. especially when they can tell you will cherish the stuff you are getting.
i love estate sales.net, this listing was okkkk but the rooms were so full it was worth the trip. i love it when it looks like the people never threw anything away and lived there for 50 years!

  11. I looooooove that poodle portrait. Oh my gosh. And that other portrait of the man too. It was probably priced too high but if not, I would have been all over that one and that awesome wallet. That cabinet is absolutely perfect for Travis' first aid collection.

    1. that painting was 75 bucks! isn't it wonderful? i had a feeling that a lot of the stuff at that sale wasn't from the house. like the estate company has some stuff they carry around to all the sales they do. The wallet was 1o bucks and i'm seriously kicking myself for not getting it

  12. p.s. It's so disappointing when estate sales are priced like antique stores. Those canisters - my gosh.

  15. oh man, estate sales are the best. it does suck though when they have things priced too high, and i have to wonder if they really think they're going to sell things. i'm glad you didn't go home empty-handed, thought!
