Narrows of the Harpeth

It was a beautiful weekend here in Nashville and we made the most of it by going on a hike this past Sunday. We went to the Narrows of the Harpeth. I have seen photos of it on social media (is that lame? no?) and always wanted to go. It was gorgeous!
This is the main thing I wanted to see. I thought it would be a hike to get there, but it only took about 10 minutes. The water is pretty low right now but it was still cool!
It was so fun to sit up on top of it! Travis and Marc climbed up the front, the rest of us went around and just walked up the stair-like rocks on the side. This is a photo of Crystal taking a selfie. Haha.
View from above the waterfall. We packed a lunch and it seemed kind of lame to eat if after we'd only "hiked" for ten minutes, but this seemed like the perfect spot. To bad you can't swim here!
We thought these rocks looked like coffins. Coooooooool.
Travis is down there throwing the biggest rocks he can into the water.
There was also a rock skipping competition. I forgot how to do it apparently.
After we walked back from the tunnel we walked up to the bluff. Both hikes were way easier than I was expecting.
Gorgeous view! Everyone was freaking out just because I slipped a little bit kind of close to the edge. It was fine!
We told him to pose like Sasquatch.
We found a creepy cave and crawled in of course.
We'll be back when it warms up to go canoeing here! It was such a nice place!
On the way back to town we passed a sign for a pumpkin patch. So of course we stopped. It was strange. No pumpkins to buy? But there were these awesome weird cut outs. Look at that scary thing!
I love these things.
Group photo! We were the only people there because the hay ride had just left. Worth it!
Our last stop was Joann's so Crystal could buy some vinyl. We got the boys to pose in front of these flowers outside. How cute are they? I feel like I need this as a poster.
What a fun day! We ended up at Crystal's house watching Idle Hands and drinking cider cocktails. Perfect.

Smokey Mountain National Park: Part 2

I picked a "moderate" hike for our hike in the Smokey Mountains. It ended up being kind of hard (for me at least) but it was still fun.

crystal carrying a prop for our photoshoot at the top of the mountain.

we stopped for lunch about 30 minutes in. haha.

we didn't have sandwich bags in the cabin so travis used this huge one he carries to put my camera in if it starts to rain.

scary thin bridges with handrails on just one size!

climbing up under s steep cliff. we thought this was the top but we were really wrong.

still not quite the top but that was as far as i could make it. it was so beautiful! even if there were no leaves on the trees. next post i'll show you the random photos we took once we got up there. here is a hint....

Smokey Mountain National Park

The Smokey Mountain National Park is one of the most beautiful parks in the country, so when we were in Gatlinburg of course we had to go on a hike!

the drive into the park is gorgeous!

pretty views around every turn.

we stopped at this creek with huge boulders that thomas has been talking about forever.

it would have been so fun in the summer when you can swim. even though the pull off would probably be packed.

check out that all natural lens flair.

we kept cracking up because from hill to hill the trees were so different. One way you looked there was all kinds of beautiful fall foliage, if you turned the other way, the trees were completely bare.

we drove a little farther to the trail head that we picked. check out how none of us but thomas had on appropriate hiking shoes. i feel like all the people who passed us with their packs and hats and hiking sticks thought we were crazy. i'll post tomorrow about the hike! i'm trying really hard not to post 100 pictures per post!

Dia de los Muertos: Part Two!

The Cheekwood botanical garden is really beautiful. The house is amazing and the grounds are so cool.
the "crawling lady hare" is my favorite part of the sculpture trail. she looks so eerie! the sculpture is made of wire. it was hard to pick which food truck to eat from! they all looked good and all had long lines. we ended up at yayo o.m.g. we shared an order of mahi mahi tacos. this is not a great picture but oh man it was SO GOOD. it had cranberries in it! and i don't even know what else. it was amazing.
i ate this too. i don't know what it is called. we got some pan de muerto too. it was pretty awesome.

Dia de los muertos!

Every year the botanical garden in Nashville does a Day of the Dead Celebration. Travis and I went this year, it was a great start to our vacation week!

i love alters. i say i'm going to make one every year, but i always forget.

one day i will make it down to mexico to see the celebration.
the nashville one is pretty fun though. it gets better every year!
i was good and resisted buying much. and i've already got so many skeleton things.
we got some treats from las paletas! i got raspberry lime, it was SO SOUR i couldn't finish it. travis got hot chocolate which had cayanne. it was really good.
we made paper marigolds and skull masks. we missed the sugar skull station somehow!
we got some free hats too!
we made a tombstone for rose for the pet graveyard. it has been about a year since we lost her. i still miss her so much and think about her all the time. i think i'll split this into two posts so i don't bombard you with too many pictures!
