The April Flea and a 31st Birthday

Yooooooooo! Hey guys, long time no blog. Good news, I got a new job! It has been taking up my time lately, and I'm really happy with it. I'm not going to make promises about posting on my blog more, because I keep doing that, then it doesn't happen. But I do love looking back at these posts, so let's see if I can catch up!
I turned 31 about a month ago. I didn't have any big plans, I just wanted to sleep in a little and then go to the flea market. I got to do my favorite thing, lay in bed with the dogs while Travis makes us breakfast. (The girls are both doing well by the way! ::knock on wood::)

The April flea was my first visit of the year! I've really cut back on my vintage spending, but it was fun to take a little birthday money and buy some goodies for myself.

Since it was my birthday my best dogs hung out with me all day. It was the best!

One of my favorite vintage decals I've seen! I love the colors and the mushroom  and the sassy bunny posing for his portrait.

This booth always has fun toys! I had that Littlefoot puppet when I was a kid. 

Crystal and I were both into this ET bag, and neither of us needed it, so we did a "snap and walk". 

I always have a few photos of chalk dogs from the flea. And I have a few in my house so I don't really need to be looking for more...

I love this big horse print. If I had that much wall space anywhere, I would have asked the price.

Here is the item that got away. I couldn't find the person whose booth this was, so I just left it. I thought about it all day and night and the next morning Travis went back to see if he could buy it....and it was sold! Wah! The perfect car shade.

This precious little poodle was working the flea market office window. "Hello, this is dog! How can I help you?"

We went to lunch at my favorite, Baja Burrito, and Travis put some candles in my pinto beans. 

We had a little photo shoot by the pink wall. 

Crystal and Marc left to pick up Marc's son and Thomas, Travis and I went in search of Retro Sno, the snoball truck! I love the rainbow snow ball. I haven't given in many times, but I check their instagram daily to see where they are parked. I told Travis to "Make a better face!" and that is what he did. Haha!

I can't remember what else we did that afternoon, but we eventually met up with Crystal and Marc again and went to dinner at the newest vegan restaurant in Nashville, Graze, and then to Rosepepper for a pitcher of margaritas. I had talked about maybe doing karaoke in public for the first time for my birthday, but chickened out as usual. We just went back to Crystal and Marc's house and used youtube to do karaoke. It is the BEST because you can find almost any song! We did all 90's and early 2000's hits like "How Bizarre" and " Toxicity." I haven't laughed that hard in a LONG time. It was perfect.

Travis made me one of his famous pineapple upside down cakes and we put in the party light that Thomas gave Crystal for Christmas. It was so cool! We had the disco ball going too of course. Their house is always ready for a dance party.

And dance we did. But not TOO much. I wasn't sore the next morning, haha. 

When we were in high school Crystal and I were in LOVE with Blink-182. It is so funny (to us at least) that we married a Marc and a Travis, and the other person we hang out the most with is Thomas (aka Tom). So our own personal Marc, Tom and Travis. We ended the night singing first date because Thomas hadn't seen the video somehow, and it was perfection. I had a wonderful birthday.

Birthday Kigurumi!

My birthday isn't until next week, but last weekend Travis went camping with my best friend's husband and she took that opportunity to give me my present early! She got me a Totoro Kigurumi!!! We had a slumber party and wore these the whole time.

Kigurumi are from Japan, land of everything cute! They are basically costume pajamas and I love mine! They are so baggy and cozy and it makes you feel like you are wrapped in a comfy blanket. Crystal got herself a generic bear. Look at the butts! So funny!

Man, I can't get over how much I love mine. To bad we're going into summer so it'll be too hot to wear it soon. But I'm set for next winter! I may have turned the air conditioning up and the ceiling fan on high the other day so I could lay on the couch in mine. Haha.

Crystal picked me up from work and we started our ladies weekend with a trip to Sephora where we tried on too many kind of nail polish. I bought glitter eyeliner (you only live once right?)  Then we went to Two Boots to get pizza. They make my favorite vegan pizza ever! The "V is for Vegan" one. Highly recommend! And check out those nails.

We went back to her house and watched Rupaul's drag race then went on a dessert run with our friend Thomas. Then we went to a Joan Crawford party at Lisa's house. It was so fun!

The next day we watched more drag race and then met the boys for a celebratory lunch at Chuy's. They hiked 18 miles! What a great weekend.

My 29th Birthday!

If you follow me on instagram you know that this past Wednesday was my 29th birthday! I took four days off of work for the occasion and had a really wonderful time. Most of the celebrating ended up happening on Tuesday because my best friend was also off of work and was able to spend the whole day with me. Here is what we got up to!

This is Crystal! Who you have seen before. She met up with me at my house and then took me out to lunch at a place in Hillsboro Village. I can't remember the name, but it was all kinds of flatbread things, with lots of vegan stuff on the menu. Awesome!

 Our main objective for the day was going to Sephora for makeovers. It is silly, but we have both been wanting to do it for a long time and were always too chicken. I got that gift card for Christmas, and she gave me the other one. Haha! I felt like since I'm almost 30, maybe I should learn a little about makeup.

 And after! It was actually really fun! The girl who did mine was really nice and knew I wanted red lipstick even though I thought I wanted something neutral. They have lots of cruelty free and vegan stuff to choose from too. We both ended up buying some things and I'm excited to play around. I felt like a total freak wearing lipstick all day but looking back I like how it looks. I think I just need to get used to it. I'm so happy we did it! I almost feel like a grown woman!

Then we went shoe shopping and bought matching flats! If you had told me ten years ago that I would be spending my birthday buying makeup and shoes I would have laughed at you. 

 Presents! I still have years worth of that rock and roll tv wrapping paper to use. And I'm so glad!

Crystal got me the Spock shirt! And Travis got me the blu ray and the book! Help! has always been one of my favorite movies! For years I haven't been able to watch it because I just have a VHS tape, I am so happy to have the blu ray now! I watched it the next day and it was just and weird and amazing as I remembered.

 There is Scampi and Murray keeping an eye on the proceedings. 

Travis came home, and we picked up Crystal's husband Marc and had tacos! I am OBSESSED with making tacos. We have been doing it once a week for the past month and then I eat the leftovers for days! We make refried beans, fresh mango salsa, beyond meat feisty crumbles (best fake meat i've EVER HAD) and for my birthday Travis made delicious spicy guacamole! Mmmm I want it again right now!

We talked and laughed and did a little karaoke and then played Catchphrase! The best group game there is! Crystal and I won both rounds, we have kind of a psychic connection.

 Travis got me a cake from Kahn's Desserts in East Nashville. It was chocolate with mint icing between the layers, and vanilla on the outside. It was delicious! And cute. I had such a good time celebrating with my best friends. We are going on vacation together in July and I can't wait!

 On my actual birthday I mostly just sat around, bought some short shorts, and then went and got tattooed! It is a kitsune from Japanese folklore. It is on my left arm. I just got the outline and the black done this time. I can't wait to get it colored! I'll show you a photo of the actual thing later. I didn't get a good one when it was fresh and now it is all gross and scabby. It was done by Jason St.Clair from Flash City as usual. He is the best!

The day after that I went to the lake and laid on the beach with some friends. It was fun but I got my first sunburn of the year! I put on so much sunscreen too, over and over! I'm so mad about it! After the lake I brought my karaoke machine to my friend Jamie's house and had probably the best karaoke session ever. So many people were just as into it as I am! See me second from the right? It was perfect.

The last day of my  mini birthday vacation Travis was able to be off of work and we spent the whole day together at the flea market. And I got so much stuff! I'll tell you about it soon! April has been the best month so far, I hope it's a sign that my summer is going to rule!

Travis' 29th Birthday!

Like I said a few days ago, Travis turned 29 on the 22nd! It was lucky it fell on a Saturday this year, and I was able to get off. We spent the whole day together and had such a good time! The weather was so nice and everything seemed to go our way. We started off the morning with some vegan waffles, made by the birthday boy himself! I made him put birthday candles in EVERYTHING this year. It made us laugh every time!

Scampi is Travis' cat, and she loves to be near him whenever she gets the chance. She sat in the chair next to him while we ate and he opened presents. I got him the Indiana Jones collection on blu ray and this cute manatee tea infuser. Do you like Travis' mug? It is a vintage one by a Japanese company (I forget the name.) We have a duck one he loves, then he found this one recently at a local thrift. 

 We went to an estate sale in East Nashville. Lauren over at Apron Strings Vintage wrote a post saying fellow Nashvillians needed to check it out. I wasn't able to get there until Saturday so the good stuff was gone! But you could tell by what was left that is was awesome! I'll have a post about it for you soon.

We stopped for second breakfast at Khan's. It is all vegan and they make an amazing vegan breakfast biscuit! We went in just to get cupcakes to eat later, but the biscuits were calling.

We were cracking up putting the candle on this soda! The waitress thought we were weirdos. Which is ok cuz it's true.

Yum! Seitan bacon egg and cheese! 

And of course there is the candle in his sausage, egg, and cheese. 

After this we spend a few hours at the flea market, which you can read about in my post from yesterday. Travis had some birthday money to spend but couldn't find the perfect thing.

It was so beautiful we wanted to spend some time in our yard when we got back home. Travis found this nice old Bocce set at the Goodwill Outlet last year. It has been sitting in our utility room but we never got around to playing it.

If you haven't played before, one person throws the small white ball, called the palino, then you take turns trying to throw your balls close to it. The balls are heavy and are made of stone. Our yard is full of mole hills so you couldn't really roll them. You had to throw them high up and hope they landed close! It was way more fun than I thought it would be!

Here we were tied. You play to 11. And I won! I couldn't believe it!

We really tried to get a photo of him throwing a ball with a lit candle, but it was a little windy and it never worked! We had fun trying though!

Look at that perfect form!

The pugs would sit at our feet while we played, then follow us across the yard to pick up the balls. Then they would just sit there until we herded them back to where we were throwing from. We didn't want to hit them! Those almost blind old ladies didn't know what was going on!

After we finished the game I spread out a blanket and laid in the sun with the girls. Phyllis loves sun bathing and doesn't get to do it much. That is her over the shoulder pin up look.

Travis cleaned off our Bocce set. They look great now! Maybe we should have done that first! Haha. Look at our poor faded pink siding. It used to be that dark red in the top right but it faded in the sun.

Priscilla was VERY interested about what was going on in this box. 

Mmmm! Giant chocolate filled cupcakes with strawberry icing! 

The girls and I sang happy birthday to Travis then they stared at him while he ate his treat. 

Travis had a tattoo appointment at six so we went to our favorite local burrito place for dinner, Baja Burrito! He had the seitan chorizos con papas tacos! We ate so much good food that day!

I got the peasant plate. Their beans are my favorite. And the fruit tea. And the guacamole salad.

Then I sat for a few hours while Travis got started on his stomach piece! It was very painful but it looks awesome! Our artist and friend Jason St. Clair did it, he works at Flash City and is amazing! Of course we had to get one last candle photo!

Hahaha! It was such a good day! I'm so happy we were able to do so much fun stuff (and eat so much good food!) Happy 29th to my best dude!
