Anniversary Trip: Day One

we are back from our trip! by the end of the seven days we were really ready to come home but it was a great trip! it will probably take a little while for me to post it all, but here is the first day...

we drove from nashville to charleston...9 hours!
we left at 5 am! i can't believe we actually got up and out the door. it was still dark.

we stopped and searched for a letterbox, but couldn't find it. i think it was gone. but it was in a nice park...

travis was really excited about our rental car.

the drive through the smokey mountains was nice. and the tunnels are fun. but there is this seemingly endless stretch that is all twisty and there are not exits for a long time, and our tank was on empty so we were freaking out just a little. but we made it.
we bought this book "road food" by a couple that travels around the us and writes about good restaurants. so we made a list of places to check out on our trip. we tried to check out the beacon drive in, but it was closed! of course. this happened to us a lot on our trip.
we stopped a few times for letterboxes.

here is a picture of our cute room! i didn't get a picture of the outside of the hotel for some reason. it was all adorable and ivy covered.

we stayed in a place called the anchorage inn.

the hotel was right on the harbor and we didn't really have to drive at all the whole time we were there.

we went out on the harbor and looked at the ocean. of course it started raining as soon as we got out there. we watched that cruise ship for a long time hoping it would leave the port, but it didn't. bummer.

we drove across the bridge. apparently it is the longest suspension bridge in the united states.

we walked to a touristy irish pub for dinner. it was really good though. travis had crab fritters and i had fried flounder. which is pretty much all i ate while we were there. i LOVE flounder.

after dinner we walked around town and looked at the beautiful architecture.


we were very excited to see all the beautiful old graveyards. they were locked up for the night so we had to come back tomorrow.

we went to waterfront park to see that pineapple fountain.

we sat on a swing on the pier for a long time and watched the sun go down. it was really nice.

Yard Sale

on saturday we had our yard sale. it was a great motivation for me to get rid of stuff. because i am a packrat in the worst way.




it was raining on and off all day so we put all our stuff under the car port. i think we would have gotten more customers if we had all the stuff out in the front yard but oh well. do you like our little sign stuck in with the shovel?



rose was good most of the time. but she barked like crazy at some people. a cute couple with their little kid came by, they live right around the corner and have friend potential.

we ended up making 30 bucks. not too bad for a bunch of junk.

kyle came and read this scandelous book. travis got it for me at a thrift store, it's so bad!!! and GROSS.


ryan came and bought all of our pez. we were asking 5 bucks and he gave us 20 since it was worth more. what a sweetie. he ended up with 92 more pez!



i've been kitten sitting for my friend jess. travis went by and fed her and took a picture for me since i was busy with the yard sale. her name is Fig and she is tiny and so sweet! every day i go over there i end up staying for two hours.



so yard sale turned into friend party. and it was really fun!



we just discovered these pizzas from fresh market. they are only 4 bucks and SO GOOD. one is spinach with alfredo instead of red sauce. and we got another one with tomatoes. yummmm.



we discovered that rose looks just like darth vader!!! adorable! (i wish this picture was better)







apparently something serious was happening. travis left to help his friend jay film the legendary shack shakers at the mercy lounge, and i went on a date with marissa and kyle! it was really fun. we went to katy k's and i got a really cute david bowie coaster. we ate at chipotle (i hadn't been there before. it was pretty good) and then we followed marissa around while she shopped at the fancy mall. hahaha. i don't think i had ever hung out with just them before and i didn't feel third wheel at all. perfect.

What is this?

This huge bush is blooming in our backyard! It's so pretty! i can't figure out what it is though!



i thought maybe some kind of rose but they don't have a smell. travis suggested some kind of peony but they have thorns. i guess it doesn't really matter, i'm just curious. i need to cut a big bunch of them before they are gone!





crystal and marc came over to get the rest of their laundry that was at our house. fema has come out to their house and hopefully they'll get money to fix their foundation. last i talked to them they still weren't able to turn most of their power on. poor things.

rose really wanted that sucker. hahah. she still begs even though we don't ever give her anything other than dog food and dog treats!!

lookit that sad little face!! ahh i love her! i think maybe i want to get another pug in a year or two. their is a pug rescue in nashville. we'll see. two dogs might be too much.

Pegasus!

I've been having the worst luck lately. nothing really terrible, just stupid stuff like my alarm not going off the day i open, and being 10 bucks under on my till at work. today was the worst probably. one of the cats got up on the top shelf in the living room and broke the groom from our wedding topper, and smashed on of my most special wedding gifts...

the skeleton bride that my best friend gave me, that she brought back from her honeymoon in mexico. i don't even know if i ever took a picture of it. i'm trying to glue it back together but there is a lot of tiny chips so there are big spots all over it. i'm really bummed about it. in not bad news, i had another session on my pegasus. i did four hours, which is the most i've ever done. oh man i'm hurting tonight.

i love her. i made my appointment for my pug sugar skull, end of june!

travis bought me a chocolate colored strawberry cupcake. it was so delicious. we ate dinner at a pub too, and i had the best queso i've ever had. it had spinach and tomatoes and peppers in it. yummmmm
