celestial crackers

I have lost my camera chord (again!) so i can't show you the adventure travis and i went on yesterday. so i will post a recipe that someone asked for and then i forgot to post!

Celestial Crackers from Best Recipes Holiday Food Fun: 1992

ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup, plus 1 tablespoon water, divided
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 egg white
toppings: it suggests seasame seeds, poppy seeds, garlic salt and dried herbs. i just used garlic salt. lots of it. yum

1. Combine flour, baking powder, paprika, and salt in a medium bowl. Stir in 1/3 cup water and oil to form a smooth dough.
2. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Great baking sheets (i used olive oil spray)
3. Roll dough on floured surface to a 14x12 inch rectangle. Cut dough into star and moon shapes using cutters (it suggests a 2 inch cutter, i used a 1 inch star because that is all i had) place on prepared baking sheet.
4. Combine egg white and 1 tablespoon water; brush on crackers, sprinkle with toppings.
5. Bake 8 to 10 minutes until edges begin to brown. Remove to wire rack, cool completely.

these were so so good.

enjoy! tell me if you make it!

Flea Market with Friends.

yesterday was really wonderful. thomas and i were lamenting that we hadn't hung out with crystal in a long time. so we went to nashville to hang out with her, her husband marc, and her step son jamison. we went to the flea market. and to see some new statues.

we went to the biscuit house for breakfast. well, everyone but thomas. he has been talking about it for weeks, but he stayed out to late saturday night (at a LAN party. NERD.) so he didn't make it. those are crystal's new tickle monster gloves on jamison. he is such a good poser. during breakfast he wanted to play the who do you like more game. he would ask us things like "crystal, who do you like better? daddy, or rae?" he loved it when he asked us if we liked "daddy or the waitress" better. and we both said the waitress and begged him not to tell marc. ok, i'll admit it. little kids are fun sometimes.

we went to the big flea market at the nashville fairgrounds. they have it every month, and i always forget to go. on the way hear jamison told his grandpa, "I love you more than having 67 dollars." then i was dumb and taught him what a "flat tire" was. he spent the rest of the day stomping on the back of my feet.

we loved all the piles of stuff in this booth. and lines of similar items. there was lots of stuff i would have loved to buy.

i'm regretting not getting those orange salt and pepper shakers. i really love them. i'm on the lookout for a perfect little shelf for our collection.

crystal is on the lookout for a chandelier for her bathroom. it's going to be so cute over her clawfoot tub. the guy selling these was really confusing though.

that first jesus was a big old statue connected to a cute cabinet with tiny little drawers! probably for something religious but we thought it would be perfect on your vanity to hold jewelry or something. i bought the paint by number jesus, of course. crystal and i have almost perfectly matched taste. it's so fun to shop together.

we met thomas at charlie bob's. it was weird. the waiter was this guy who seemed like he was someone's dad who just wandered in. we played rummy while waiting for our food. for some reason i am really terrible at that game. i always make the worst decisions.

thomas got the weirdest combo. a hamburger, and biscuits and gravy.....gross. he hadn't eaten yet (i think it was 6) because he had been at the hospital waiting for a friend's baby to pop out. hahah.

now the reason we were over here at charlie bob's was because crystal and marc were taking us to see these statues. we have no idea why they are here. but they are so cute!

i didn't notice til i was looking at these photos how well crystal was matching. her shirt/socks/pants/hair all matched! what! she is so funny. when deciding on the colors for her big chest piece she took into consideration how many outfits she already owned that those colors would match.

this is right off of the interstate and we kept getting honked and yelled at. we talked about planting a letter box there, but since it's on a median, i don't think i will. i bought supplies to make some boxes though. i'm really excited about it.

then we went back to their house to see the baby! i felt like i hadn't seen little scurvy in forever. she is so so big! and so wild!

i taught them how to play chickenfoot and they loved it just as much as i do. thomas left, and travis came over after work. we ate some cake that marc made (vanilla with nutmeg. it was REALLY good). and listened to mix 92.9. the light rock station. it was SO MUCH FUN. we were all singing along to songs like "kiss from a rose" and making up new words about the game, and crystal and i were laughing so hard we were crying. i was so happy to be sitting there with those people. so much love. when we move closer to them i think we need to do weekly game night.

i think crystal won the game. i can't remember.

i took a shower there (our hot water isn't working!!) and they started watching coraline. we had to leave before it was over, once i finally tore myself away. it was a great day. just perfect.

Mom's Birthday at Arrington Vinyard

it was my mom's birthday on saturday and to celebrate we went to a local vineyard and basically just enjoyed the nice weather. travis had to work, but thomas went with me. my family really likes him.

here is how my mom's cake turned out. i started decorating without much of a plan. i wish i had made some icing a different color for the piping around the top but oh well. i think it turned out pretty good.

the vineyard was really beautiful. it hasn't been out here very long. basically they just have a little store where you can taste and buy wine. they had a jazz combo on the patio, but we couldn't hear it from where we were on the hill.

my mom in her birthday dress, posing for her friend from work. i wish i had gone over and taken some photos of her.

thomas trying this raspberry dessert wine, and i said "look fancy!" and this is how he posed for me.
my mom loved the paint by number horses that we got for her. i was so glad.

thomas left. he already had plans that day, he just stopped by. everyone wanted their picture with him. haha.

we basically just sat around eating little ham sandwiches and fruit. it was so nice out. i thought that wine label was really cute.

my mom really wanted to blow out some candles. she tried really hard to get the candles lit, but finally had to give up because of the breeze. she ended up pretending to blow them out.

there were tons of people there! but it was so quite. if i drank wine, i would probably go back. if you dont' drink, there really is no point in being there. but it would probably be an awesome date spot.

when the sun started going down we went home. it was a pretty nice evening. after this i went grocery shopping, which i love to do it's so good to have food in our house again!

The Discovery Center.

On Travis' day off we went to the Discovery Center at Murfee Springs. It was so fun! i love turtles and taxidermy!

we started our little letter boxing marathon here because there are 12 boxes in the center! and we had been wanting to come anyway. most of the place was fun stuff for kids but there was a lot of stuff that was interesting to us too. it was also very challenging for letter boxing because there were TONS of people around.

this is travis pretending to pose so he can discreetly pull down a letter box. hahaha. travis the least discreet person i know. that cougar was so cute and coated in dust, like he was old, or covered in snow. precious.

they had TONS of turtles in a big tank. mostly red eared sliders. SO CUTE. i tried to get pictures of them swimming but they were too fast, and the light was too low. i love turtles.

i ended up in the bathroom, stamping on the baby changing platform. gross! but look at that cute little log book! so tiny!!

ugh those chicken feet were freaking me out! they are just rubber, poured into molds, but yuck! there were some snapping turtle feet too! travis kept making them "walk" on me. so nasty.

look at that cute neck!! so long.

that had this awesome big water table where you could change the flow of water and build big fountains to make turbines turn. i wish there had been less kids around, i wanted to play with it!

next we went outside along a really neat little path.

i loved this wetland area! it made me feel like i wasn't in tennessee anymore. so nice. we saw ducklings too! they were really tiny and sweet, until a bunch of screaming kids came along and scared them away. dangit.

such a perfect day for letter boxing. we found all the boxes we were after but one. but it's ok, we'll be back. there was also a box of the month one, that gets changed once a month! cute idea.

after the discovery center we went all over town.

a scabbers hitch hiker! how perfect! we found it in the Opie box. I think the andy griffith series was one of my favorites so far.

we ate dinner at mellow mushroom, because there was a box there. apparently we JUST missed the guy who planted it there. he took a traveling letter box friend there for dinner probably less than an hour after we left. but first we had calzones!!

it was really the best calzone i have ever had. yum. i want to eat it again right now.
