A little stop in Cave City

On our way home from our trip Travis was kind enough to indulge me in a little stop in Cave City, Kentucky. We stayed there before on our second anniversary. It's pretty close to our house so there isn't really a reason for us to stay at the tee pee hotels. Which is a shame because I love them! We had to stop by so I could spazz and take some pictures.

So amazing. There aren't a lot of these left. I would love to stay in them all!
There are lots of cute old signs in Cave City.
It is pretty much a tourist trap, but a really outdated one. Which is perfect.
Very on trend with the neon. Haha.
This shop is my favorite. Not only does a little fat white dog bark at you when you walk in (she is so happy to see you!) it sells stuff that seems to have been sitting around for the past 50 years!

Chippy cement deer.
I love a walnut craft. I THINK that circle on the "weather profit" is supposed to change colors. But I've had one for two years and it has never changed.
But it isn't all good and kitsch. Some is just ugly, and inappropriate. I wonder if there is a dolphin within 300 miles of Cave City.
After a little browsing we drove the rest of the way home and picked up the girls from our friend who was watching them for us. I love that part of the trip, picking up the babies. Phyllis tries to act like she isn't excited, but I know the truth!

  1. The wigwams are great. Coincidentally, Mammoth Cave was the answer to a trivia night question this past week. I didn't get that one. :( But now I know what the gift shops sell. ;)

  2. Haha, aww Phyllis reminds me of Captain sometimes. He does the same thing, he'll be excited for like 2 minutes and then pretend like it never happened. But I know. I know. Plus he's a daddys boy, he always misses Justin more!

  5. I've told you about the Tee Pee hotel next to the tattoo shop I go to, right? It used to have this huge sign right in front of it that said, "Do it in a Tee Pee." So gross. Haha.

  6. Eeee! I see the red squirrels!! : ) Cave City - I swear, it's like the best place on Earth and sometimes, the saddest place on Earth at the same time. What is it about Southern tourist attractions that makes them have to be that way? You've got me dying to go up there though. There is just something about that place. Every resident that I've talked to up there is just like, "Get me outta here" but it's fun to visit. : )

    1. there was a guy building a new attraction called kentucky wonder and he used to have a facebook and a website but now i can't find it! it must have died. it was supposed to be a new, awesome roadside attraction to pump up the local economy! i'm bummed because i would love to have an other reason to go there. have you ever been to guntown mountain? i want to, but i'm afraid it will be sad, in the not fun way.

  7. I ADORE THOSE TEE PEES! I am not brave enough to stay in them. Hubs and I are doing a vacay of day trips soon - I think Cave City/Mammoth Cave may be one (Don't think I'm a big sissie but I usually pick Cincy).
