Like I said, I always buy lots of photos for my collection at the flea market, but I don't post them much. My vintage photos of dogs is probably my biggest collection. I haven't counted in a while, but I have well over 100. I really love them! And I got some really great ones this month, so I thought I would share!
These are some of my favorite ones! I bought some of the same family last year, the dealer must have had some he didn't bring out before. I love how much they love their dog! There is a photo of Terry that says "Our son" and I have some pictures of a big group of friends with Terry at a vacation house. The photos are dated 1941-1947.
This is an 8x10, the biggest I have so far! Look at that terrier! A woman asked me if she could take a picture so she could paint it. I hope she really does!

I don't often buy photos where the dog isn't very clear, but the kids with the guns really sold this one. I have another one of the little girls holding up the turkey they shot, but I guess I didn't scan it. It is pretty awesome. I actually bought quite a few shots of this family.

I also love holiday photos. New year's 1960! And I JUST noticed the taxidermy squirrel in the window! Now I love it even more!
This one says "Chicago, Ill. May 1942/ Eurico and Moglie Canino and automobile" I hope those are their names! OH man, that reminds me, I have a great photo of a lady holding a cat and the back says "Ruth with King Kong." I need to scan that one.
And last but not least, some guys hanging out of a window. I try to only buy vintage photos in a few categories because it is easy to pick up everyone you find! But sometimes I just can't resist silly ones.
I love looking at old photos. They always have so much character. My fave would have to be the three boys with their dog. So cute! Do you keep all these in albums and display them? Or are they just for you?
ReplyDeletei have my favorites in those glass shadowboxes in our dining room, then the rest are in a big vintage scrapbook i got at an estate sale! It has huge blank pages, and I use black photo corners. I love flipping through the book, i bet i look through it 3 or 4 times a week.
DeleteI love that you collect these memories from other peoples' lives. I get so sad when I see old photos for sale because it means that either there was no family to take them or no one from the family who wanted them & that just slays me! It is so great to see these photos of strangers & know that someone is appreciating how special those moments were, all these years later.
ReplyDeletei have only seen photos at one estate sale i've been too, and i hardly ever see them at thrifts! I can't imagine throwing away all these awesome old pictures of my family either. of course i'm still obsessed with the picture you sent me! I seriously make everyone who comes over look at it, since it is the best vintage dog photo i have ever seen!

ReplyDeleteWow. I have a huge obsession with old photos. They're just.. magical. I don't even know how to describe it. I used to always make cards with them, but I rarely do now, because I was always so worried that whoever I gave them to wouldn't appreciate them like I do and I'd be wasting my treasures. So now I just hoard them. I also bought a large bunch from a dealer and ended up getting a ton from one family. I feel like I know them.
