Thrift Report!

I haven't done a thrift report in a while, because really I haven't been thrifting. The shops around here are pulling all the cool vintage out and putting it in cases at prices that are often ABOVE antique mall prices. such a bummer. But the Goodwill outlet still yields some gems! I went with Travis last week and here is my little pile.   Lots of vintage kids books as usual. I've got quite a good collection now!
I can never resist a copy of The Black Stallion. I need to pull all my copies together.

I love how this one has a horse sticker on the side. Like the library marks them by categories that preteen girls will be interested in.

This is one of my favorite books I have ever found! I wish it had the dust jacket, but it is still awesome! When I picked it up I was hoping for photos of the presidential pets, but instead...

I love that they didn't even try to make it look like a real situation. Check out the chair Lincoln is sitting in! Definitely not something that would be out in a barnyard or field.

I'm sure there was a pet mockingbird around while important documents were read. There was also a cute picture of Coolidge and his pet raccoon!

Travis probably gave me the side eye when I plopped this pile of macrame books into the cart. I just can't resist! I love a kitschy vintage craft book!

Especially with these great puns. I actually kind of like that Christmas tree. I think it would be a good way to display my vintage Christmas brooch collection!

Look at all those amazing craft ideas! I think the Christmas owls are probably my favorite.

Last but not least I found a book full of cute wrapping paper! The owl background is metallic! I'm going to do my best to acutally use it, and not hoard it. We'll see how it goes. Linking up with Sir Thrift A Lot. 

Thrift Report!

I haven't been thrifting very much lately. The shop that used to be my favorite has started pricing things way too high, so I only ever go to the Goodwill Outlet. And I just can't handle that every day! Like I mentioned a few days ago, I have always really loved Noah's Ark. The cute image with the giraffes is just the front cover of a vintage book, but I couldn't leave it behind! And check out how cute that mouse needle point is!

Have you ever read Maya Angelou's series of autobiographies? I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings is the first and most well known, but there are a bunch, and they are so good! She has lead a pretty incredible life! I love the cover of this edition!

Could that rabbit puppet be any more terrifying? This craft book from the 1970's is pretty incredible! There are lots of strange crafts, and even a chapter on things to make using the "gifts of mama Earth." I need some little kids to craft with!

I picked up this daily reminder book because I love the layout of the pages inside, and it is still pretty full. But I really love the little message inside! Check it out:

I'm really excited about this Hawaiian party book! One of my 30 before 30 goals is to plan a fancy dinner party, and I think I have my theme!

I love this tip. "If you are lucky enough to have more than one lei, wear them all happily and proudly, as the girl in the drawing is doing."

I will definately make this centerpiece! Complete with pipe cleaner palm trees! I have the perfect bamboo tray to use! There are tons of crazy recipes and games and things, so stay tuned! 

A few more things. Travis showed me the picture of the cats on the couch as a joke, but I love it! (Obviously). Another box purse with some hand painted mushrooms. I haven't carried one of these yet, but they are cute! The gremlin books have little records. I think we'll finally have a (working) record player soon, and I can't wait to listen to these!

This little red riding head book is so freaking cute! I love her glasses! She looks like Harry Potter's little sister. And the wolf is adorable too.

Travis found a Lite Brite and I asked if I could play with it before he put it up on ebay. I want to get the ET kit! I remember getting a Lite Brite for Christmas one year. I can still smell the burning plastic smell it makes when plugged in.

I also found this baby book, copyright 1960. The inside pages are perfect and none written on. The illustrations are so beautiful! I'm going to save it to give to a vintage loving friend when they have a baby. I love the colors on this family tree page:

And of course there is a poodle!

Last but not least, I had to include this because we NEVER find dvds in the cases at the outlet, much less a Disney dvd! And it works! The only time we ever found a dvd before was something lame, maybe City of Angels? Haha.

Thrift Haul

Friends, I kind of feel like the vintage gods are smiling down on me because they know I'm having a bit of a rough time. Just wait until I show you what I picked up at an estate sale this past weekend, it was so good I actually went back all three days. BUT I haven't had a chance to photograph my finds yet. But today for you, I have some times for an especially good trip to the Goodwill outlet. Look how good it all looks together!

Just LOOK at this cake carrier! I saw it peeking out of a new bin they were rolling out, and for once I decided to brave the madness. There was a couple standing RIGHT in front of this, and I was worried they would grab it, but they went for a broken bucket instead? What? The bottom of this is missing, but it fits perfectly on another base I have. 

This little 1960's Fisher Price tv plays London Bridge and Row, Row, Row Your Boat when you wind it up. It is really cute, and in great condition! I don't find many vintage toys that aren't totally beat up.

I was so excited to find this copy of Angus in the Ducks! I have seen it in a treasury and thought it was so cute. Now I have a great copy. The illustrations are just perfect. And I picked up the Indian craft book expecting to find cheesy crafts for kids...

But it is really more informational. There is all kinds of cool stuff in it!
I guess you could try making you own buffalo dance costume, all you need is a buffalo face.
More kids books. It is a sickness. I have soooo many.

Travis found a little bag full of cute Easter stuff! I don't really have ANY vintage Easter, so I was happy to get these silly little bunnies.

Finally found one of these music boxes! I have been looking forever!
This bag is on the brink of falling apart, but I loved the pattern so much I had to get it.

I really want to use it as my swimming bag. I haven't washed it yet, the lining is cracking and I'm scared too! So wish me luck! Travis keeps finding old boy scout bags that I need to wash too.

My goal this week is to post a few things in the etsy shop I made over a month ago. I told Travis I would try to resell some stuff online, because really I have no reason to keep thrifting and going to sales. Our house is bursting at the seams! So hopefully I'll get motivated to do it. My in-laws gave me a postal scale so I have no excuses!

Thrift Report!

I am in Atlanta at a trade show for my job. They assigned us random roommates and I had been worrying all day yesterday about it, since I am the most awkward person alive. Thankfully my roommate turned out to be the awesome buyer from Chattanooga that i had been chatting with earlier. Yesterday we spent 6 hours in the ballroom talking to holiday vendors, today it is our normal everyday vendors. It is crazy how tired this makes me, I think mostly because I'm always so nervous! So while I wait for the events of the day to start, I thought I would post about something that doesn't make me nervous.

I keep having to work on the weekends so I haven't been able to do much estate sale shopping. Terrible! But we have been thrifting a little bit. We've been bringing home lots of books lately. I'm excited to read One Woman's Arctic. It is by the author of The Incredible Journey, which I love.


Cute copy of Ivanhoe

My favorite that I have found recently is The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes. The images are so beautiful, and are familiar to me, so I must have seen it when I was a kid. I love the image of her hoping up the mountain.

The picture of the bunny with all the little babies made me squeal! Could an illustration be any cuter?

I found a cool box of game sheets from the 1960's. Too bad the box was too messed up to bring home. I love the games though! They are double sided and really cute.

All that was left of this game was the top of the box, but I had to bring it home because I am crazy. It was too cute to leave behind! Plus, it was from the Goodwill outlet, so it was only 10 cents.

And of course I had to bring home a little weirdness. How scary is that witch!

This guy is a Billy Bob toy from the now defunct Showbiz Pizza. We had just watched a great documentary about Showbiz so I couldn't resist him! I loved that place when I was a kid.

A nice little hand drawn squirrel. I'm going to frame him for my craft room.
I have been wanting one of these trays for a while, I'm so happy I found one that works!
I need to have a party so I have a reason to use it.

And I know I kind of showed it before, but here is a better shot of my sweet Lisa Frank binder. I can't help but love it! It now holds all my negatives and prints from my Holga!
