Thrift Report!

I haven't done a thrift report in a while, because really I haven't been thrifting. The shops around here are pulling all the cool vintage out and putting it in cases at prices that are often ABOVE antique mall prices. such a bummer. But the Goodwill outlet still yields some gems! I went with Travis last week and here is my little pile.   Lots of vintage kids books as usual. I've got quite a good collection now!
I can never resist a copy of The Black Stallion. I need to pull all my copies together.

I love how this one has a horse sticker on the side. Like the library marks them by categories that preteen girls will be interested in.

This is one of my favorite books I have ever found! I wish it had the dust jacket, but it is still awesome! When I picked it up I was hoping for photos of the presidential pets, but instead...

I love that they didn't even try to make it look like a real situation. Check out the chair Lincoln is sitting in! Definitely not something that would be out in a barnyard or field.

I'm sure there was a pet mockingbird around while important documents were read. There was also a cute picture of Coolidge and his pet raccoon!

Travis probably gave me the side eye when I plopped this pile of macrame books into the cart. I just can't resist! I love a kitschy vintage craft book!

Especially with these great puns. I actually kind of like that Christmas tree. I think it would be a good way to display my vintage Christmas brooch collection!

Look at all those amazing craft ideas! I think the Christmas owls are probably my favorite.

Last but not least I found a book full of cute wrapping paper! The owl background is metallic! I'm going to do my best to acutally use it, and not hoard it. We'll see how it goes. Linking up with Sir Thrift A Lot. 

A trip to the bins!

I haven't been to the Goodwill pound store in a WHILE. Travis goes almost daily, but I just can't handle it all the time. Especially since they stopped putting out the vintage china. And since I got in trouble for taking pictures. Now I have to sneak with my phone. But I went the other night with Travis and my friend Crystal. There were TONS of Halloween costumes. Like this tooth!

Also notice the rock tumbler in the background. I wanted one so bad as a kid! Did anyone have one? Was it actually cool? Or boring? Maybe I should have bought that one!

Travis found me this AMAZING bag. If you can't tell, it is beaded!! The dark back is the fabric, and it is sheer. It is so weird and so cute! 

Crystal found a few cute spooky things. I'm jealous of her shirt.

This might be the best thing we bough. Totally worth a dollar. It looks really good with shorts under it I think. And Phyllis is the perfect sidekick.

Every year I get excited to eat one of these jack o'lantern donuts. And every year I get disappointed that it is just a plane donut. 

I've been really trying to make my case at the antique mall do better. I OWED them money last month, and I don't want that to happen again! My biggest problem is I don't want to give up "the good stuff." But I find if I put it in the booth a day or two after I buy it, it isn't as hard. So I've been in a frenzy of cleaning and pricing. We'll see if it helps. Look at this cute planter!

Halloween costume shopping.
I'm excited that it is finally cold enough for me to wear the fox sweater I got a Target awhile ago!

Scampi is suddenly obsessed with sleeping on my pillow during the day. She is lucky she is cute. I'm actually allergic to all animals, but it isn't so bad as long as I'm not laying in their hair.

We went to a wedding recently and when Travis was doing a funny dance with my friend Thomas he totally split his pants! So hilarious! The wedding was awesome! I was sore the next day from dancing.

Tonight I am going to drive all night to get Travis to his Tough Mudder race on time. You should watch the video on that website. Travis has been looking forward to it for months! It looks like my personal version of hell! Wish me luck! I hope I can stay awake!

Thrift Report!

I am in Atlanta at a trade show for my job. They assigned us random roommates and I had been worrying all day yesterday about it, since I am the most awkward person alive. Thankfully my roommate turned out to be the awesome buyer from Chattanooga that i had been chatting with earlier. Yesterday we spent 6 hours in the ballroom talking to holiday vendors, today it is our normal everyday vendors. It is crazy how tired this makes me, I think mostly because I'm always so nervous! So while I wait for the events of the day to start, I thought I would post about something that doesn't make me nervous.

I keep having to work on the weekends so I haven't been able to do much estate sale shopping. Terrible! But we have been thrifting a little bit. We've been bringing home lots of books lately. I'm excited to read One Woman's Arctic. It is by the author of The Incredible Journey, which I love.


Cute copy of Ivanhoe

My favorite that I have found recently is The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes. The images are so beautiful, and are familiar to me, so I must have seen it when I was a kid. I love the image of her hoping up the mountain.

The picture of the bunny with all the little babies made me squeal! Could an illustration be any cuter?

I found a cool box of game sheets from the 1960's. Too bad the box was too messed up to bring home. I love the games though! They are double sided and really cute.

All that was left of this game was the top of the box, but I had to bring it home because I am crazy. It was too cute to leave behind! Plus, it was from the Goodwill outlet, so it was only 10 cents.

And of course I had to bring home a little weirdness. How scary is that witch!

This guy is a Billy Bob toy from the now defunct Showbiz Pizza. We had just watched a great documentary about Showbiz so I couldn't resist him! I loved that place when I was a kid.

A nice little hand drawn squirrel. I'm going to frame him for my craft room.
I have been wanting one of these trays for a while, I'm so happy I found one that works!
I need to have a party so I have a reason to use it.

And I know I kind of showed it before, but here is a better shot of my sweet Lisa Frank binder. I can't help but love it! It now holds all my negatives and prints from my Holga! 

The Cutest Find

One of the things I have found recently at the Goodwill Outlet is this "polar bear skin rug" made of yarn. Travis claims he finds them "all the time" but I can't believe he wouldn't bring one home for me! I really love it! 

Travis also didn't think the cats would lay on it. Little did he know, I could set up the perfect cat trap. They can't resist the dining room table if I move the chairs back and act like I'm going to take pictures.

Worked like a charm!
Murray really knows how to work it.

Such a super model. Within the next hour the other two cats had laid on it. And I'm pretty sure Scout it sleeping on it right now. So I would say it is a hit!

And check out that Lisa Frank binder in the back! I can't wait to use that for my negatives.

Travis wasn't into this macrame lion. I thought it was awesome! But I left it behind.I also resisted this classy purse, if you can believe it.

Here is some stuff I came home with. The tropical ABC's are really cute and weird. Travis found that log art. I am a sucker for anything on a sliver of log! And the sewing box is kind of a boring color, but I've been looking for one that actually stays closed, and this one does.

This little lady is a pin cushion! And if you pull the little tassel on her purse it is a tape measure! Could she be any cuter? I love her eye lashes and floppy hat.

I'm not sure what these are for, but they are so pretty! They are pretty stuff, especially around the edges. I love the contrasting stitching around the flowers and leaves. They are a little discolored, but I'm afraid to try and clean them. I think I'm going to use them on my table, to put under serving dishes or cakes stands during the summer.

This doll is kinda creepy, but also pretty cool. I think she is handmade.

We found this cool vintage microscope set too. I need to do a vintage science themed mantle this summer. How cute would that be??
