Vintage love

We're in Louisville tonight. We actually found some great vintage stuff that i can't wait to photograph when we get home! and i'm regretting not buying a pee wee's big adventure silk screen poster.
but that isn't really what this post is about. this is another batch of goodies i found at that great estate sale that was just a few blocks from my house!

i'm still obsessed with measuring cups. i got that little frog to put my kitchen sponge in, but when i washed it one of the eyes fell out. wah. that little snoopy trophy is so cute. it says "dearest secretary" i tried to find out something about it online but all i could find was ugly snoopy trophies from the 80's.

they had tons of cute avon bottles in the boxes (a buck a piece) and it made me wish i had a fancy girly vanity to put some on. i just got the cute owl. the german shepherd is aftershave is still good and travis is going to use it. haha. it looks so manly on the counter.

i am REALLY excited about that table cloth. it fits my kitchen table perfectly and it was only 3 dollars because it had a tiny hole in an inconspicuous place. yes!

some little christmas bits. i'm going to probably have to go through my vintage christmas carefully and get rid of stuff because i have SO MUCH.

i love the little snowman face.

some paper ephemera.

i agonized over what i could possibly do with these little things but at a dollar for all 4 i couldn't pass them up.

and last but not least, a big spirograph set that travis got at the goodwill outlet. it's really fun to play with!

AKC Museum of the Dog!

Oh man! I never posted the last awesome place we went on our St. Louis trip!

somehow i didn't know this place was in town the first two times we came. it is mostly a dog themed art museum. my senior project in high school was about the history of the dog in art, and i did an 8 painting series. so i was SO excited to go here! i took a TON of pictures but i'm only going to show you a few.

pug band!

i would LOVE to have something this on my wall. (dork!)

i was so happy!
there was a cavalier meetup going on. you can take your dog in the museum! of course.

did you know spiked collars came from dogs that would be guarding live stock in the mountains? so that mountain lions couldn't bite their neck?

so pretty and dreamy.

the room with the service dogs was one of my favorite parts! this is smokey, a yorkie who was the mascot of a battalion during WWII! so cute. here is a picture of her parachuting!

i also loved this case of dog ids. haha, so cute. i need to make some for phyllis and priscilla. they had some hilarious pictures of dogs with the drugs and stuff they sniffed out. they were funny because the dogs mouths were always open and it looked like they were so stoked about finding 100 pounds of cocaine!
so i loved the AKC museum. obviously. on our way out, there was a pug in the lobby! his owner had to run some errands so she dropped him off for a while so he wouldn't be hot in the car. he was a show put and had been at a show that morning. he was so handsome! i wish i had taken a picture. after that we hit the road and came home to nashville.

Poor Little Phyllis

I just found these pictures on my computer that i never posted! they are from before we got priscilla. phyllis and her best dog friend chloe.

this is when i decided phyllis needed a dog friend. she loved having someone to cuddle with.

poor little phyllis is sick today. yesterday when i got home she was coughing and coughing. about every 15 minutes her whole little body would shake with these deep coughs. i was worried about it and decided if it didn't pass by morning she would be off to the vet.

i was really scared that she had a collapsed trachea (because i always try to diagnose via the internet and freak myself out). thankfully it isn't. it is just kennel cough. which is kind of like a cold, or the flu. i guess she must have picked it up at pugs in the park, because that is the only time she has been away from our house lately. she is so pitiful. they gave her medication to make her sleepy (the cough is worse when she gets excited).

i know, chloe is totally sniffing her butt. but i had to post a picture of that cute little nub! we call it her chicken wing. she still has her should and part of her leg bone so she can wiggle it. and it isn't as gross as that sounds. haha!

they were supposed to stay with my parents this weekend since we're going to louisville but now they can't because i don't want my parent's dog to catch it. it's really contagious. it's ok though, it just means they get to come with us!

that gif isn't slowed down. that is how slow she scratches her face. she is so sweet. hopefully she will feel better soon and priscilla won't get sick too.

My first kinder egg experience!

A few weeks ago in the comments of my post about the pez convention i went to, max from blackbird has spoken mentioned kinder eggs, and i told her i'd never had one. then she was super sweet and offered to send me some! i was so excited to see this package in my mailbox!

i'm kiiiiind of obsessed with new zealand to getting anything in the mail from there was exciting. i had to wait a few hours to open it though, because it was almost 100 degrees that day! i put the box in my freezer so the chocolate would firm back up.

oh man the chocolate was so good! anything is better than american chocolate. ours is all high fructose corn syrup and other garbage. i practiced more self control that i usually can and made them last almost a week! i took one in my packed lunch each day.

five of the toys were these silly little woodland creatures with arms that stretch out. they are stuck to stuff all over our house right now!
so thanks max! i really loved the package! and i have some pez to send you! i just keep putting off going to the post office!

Estate Sales!

i love it when i am off on Thursdays. That way i can get to estate sales bright and early on the first day. We went to one yesterday that was very close to my house. The house was FULL of awesome vintage stuff, and they are going to open up the stuffed full garage next weekend! i'll have to make a few posts to get in all the great stuff we found.

I was so happy to find one of those tiny deer mounts! and that vase! the tiny cuckoo clock was actually found at a thrift store, my only good find there in a while. i love decanter jars for parties and i like how that one is marked for "all beverages"

some silly magnets.

apparently i am starting a vintage black stallion/black beauty collection. i have about six copies now.

a cute bermuda glass in my favorite colors!

some butterprint pyrex. i know it is easy to get out of control if you start collecting, so we're just picking up this pattern. it matches my kitchen colors. the only other thing i'd allow myself is red or turquoise fridgies. i want some of those badly!

and of course some vintage linens! because i am obsessed. they had a BEAUTIFUL chenille bedspread and this great poodle condiment set that i am kicking myself for not getting. i actually went back for the poodle the next day but apparently someone had it in a pile of stuff to buy and it got knocked over and shattered! what a shame.

Deathly Hallows Part 2: Review!

every time a new harry potter movie comes out i have to see it at least twice to like it. i spend the first time being pissed about the things they changed and left out. which is pointless because if they included every little part of those books that i love they would be overly long, boring movies. i think i have finally come to terms with that. haha.
our midnight showing was kind of miserable. it was in a tiny tiny theater that was boiling hot. they played the previews twice and started late so i was already irritated when it started. so i thought it was ok, then we went to see it again the next afternoon, and i liked it a lot.
i loved the whole gringott's sequence. the special effects were so good! and the dragon! it looked perfect! i loved polyjuice belletrix. one of the changes i loved was the changed they made to the final showdown between harry and voldemort.

in the books it is kind of anticlimactic after how hard it was for harry to get to that point. i liked that they made it an actual fight in the movie. and voldemort falling to pieces and floating away was a nice visual (even though it looked like skin flakes and grossed me out) instead of him just falling over dead.
I thought they did a pretty good job handling the snape back story. it was visually beautiful and gave enough information so it was almost as heart wrenching as the book. alan rickman really is a perfect snape to me.
i really didn't cry as much as i thought. a little during the snape scene, then of course once harry uses the resurrection stone. that part in the book makes me SOB every single time.

there were some things that i REALLY hated though. i hated the scene they added with ron and hermione in the chamber of secrets. if they were going to show hermione destroying a horcrux they could have made it put up a fight (like all the others did) and give us something more interesting than a wave. ron/hermione was my favorite part of the books, and i knew they would have to invent something to lead up to their kiss since they cut out the house elf story line but i found what they chose to do really lame.
the part that bugs me the most is when harry talks to ron and hermione before going into the forrest to die. why did they add that? i think it would have been much sadder/more effective to have him walking out under the cloak, seeing everyone he loves, and knowing he can't speak to them because he knows that if he does he won't be able to leave. and ron doesn't even give him a hug like hermione does? they hug about a thousand times in the other movies! that is something i always loved about their relationship. exuberant hugs when they are reunited after summer break. and ron doesn't do ANYTHING when harry tells them he is going to die? ugh.

speaking of hugs. this was probably my favorite part of the movie. hilarious.

i could probably go on and on, but i won't. because i doubt anyone has read this far. but in the end, i loved it. i can't wait until it is at the dollar theater so i can go see it a few more times. and i'm sad there are no more movies to look forward too.

Potter Party Continued!

After we had our Hogwarts inspired dinner Travis went to pick up Crystal's husband so Crystal and i decided to act a fool. we thought it would be awesome to take pictures with some smoke bombs i had hoarded since last fourth of july. because it would look "magic". it didn't really work out.

they STINK so bad! and didn't really flow like we wanted. and we kept opening our mouths and could taste the stink. there are a bunch of pictures of me gagging and running away. completely hilarious. but they will not be posted on the internet. that is my "witch face" that i'm making by the way.

then we tried to take a picture together. and none turned out very cute! but look at how big she teased my hair up! it took me FOREVER to un-rat it the next day.

somehow the lightening bolt looked subtle on me. irl you couldn't really see it past my glasses and hair.

crystal did a dumbledore pose. we laughed so much and took about 400 pictures in spent the rest of night looking at them and cracking up. until it was time for the movie of course. i guess tomorrow I'll write my review! i've seen it three times already so i guess i'm ready to give my opinion. (i'm tempted to drive way out to the drive in to see it again tomorrow. that would be perfect)
