Out to Clarksville for a sale

I don't often drive far for estate sales, but I was off work on Thursday and felt like going somewhere new. Clarksville is about an hour from my house, and I took the back roads. I ended up driving through Addams, Tennessee. I really want to go to the Bell Witch Cave!
I was listening to an NPR story on Woody Guthrie (who I LOVE) and at one point they played a sing-along version of "This Land is Your Land" and I was driving through some beautiful hills and I got all choked up. Hahah, nerd alert!
I got out to the sale around noon, and there was still a lot of great stuff left! I guess a lot of the dealers don't drive out so far. Or maybe there was tons of even better stuff that I missed! I loved these chair cushions! They wouldn't sell them separate from the chairs though.
How cool is this bed! It was really little, as vintage beds always are.
Beautiful copy of Black Beauty from 1912! I would have loved to have it for my collection, but they wanted 60 bucks for it. I should have left a bid! I never do that, I always think I won't win.
Ohh check out that pink bathroom!
Another one in the series of 3M bookshelf games from the 60's we are collecting! They wanted 35 so I didn't get it. The two I have I only paid 50 cents for.
This mint bathroom was so pretty!
I like the wallpaper too. Who would have ever thought those would look good together?
There was a TON of good vintage Christmas left! I didn't get these, but someone had personalized all the ones in this box with rick rack and stick on letters. They were pretty cute.
I also resisted this box of little glass balls.
I was so excited to find these reflectors! I always see them on Magpie Ethel's blog but never see them in person! Same with the mercury picks and garland below! I was seriously STOKED! I ended up only getting the picks and garland though, I was trying not to spend TOO much. I'll come back and show you want I DID get tomorrow!

1940's Scrapbook

Here is the scrapbook that Travis brought home for me! It was a made by a Jean Burchett from 1945-1948. She kept all KINDs of little random things. Mostly relating to boys. I love it!
I love the old candy wrappers that she saved! And the news highlights of the day. Look at cute Queen Elizabeth! There are lots of clippings about presidents too. And fires.
Teeny tiny firecracker.
"These are daddy's insignia he had while he was in the army during 1945 and 7 months of 1946" I love the black cat one! I should look these up to see what they stand for.
She saved lots of pennies that people gave to her.
Some more fireworks, and a cigarette pack.
And check out that cigarette! It is a Lucky Strike. There is also an actual piece of moldy old gum taped in here! I can't believe I didn't take a picture of it! So silly.
The last 10 pages are all movie star photos cut out of magazines with "handsome", "pretty", or "charming" written on all of them.

I just love these things. I guess this is another new collection for me. I keep imagining people at my estate sale wondering why the heck I have other people's scrapbooks and family photos.
Weirdo for life!

Estate Sale: Travis put his training to the test

Last Friday when I was about to leave for an estate sale I've been looking forward too when my car wouldn't start! I was super bummed, and even though (thankfully) I just had to get a new battery, I still wasn't able to go to the sale. Travis was sweet and went the next day for me when I was at work though. He knows my taste really well and I couldn't wait to see what he brought home for me!
They advertised "lots of 1940's ephemera" and that is mostly what he brought home for me. I love it all! Those Hallmark date books are supposed to be for writing down birthdays and things, but she filled them with actual dates she went on! This lady was pretty boy crazy! I love the teeny tiny memo pad too! It is blank, I wonder why she kept it.
Just a little hand full of slides. that ones says "Me and my children down in the village"
Here it is up to the light. The other slides are similar. How cute!
Rocky City soap!
I'm getting quite a a little vintage Rock City collection this year.
Envelope with kisses! "This is the paper that Billy Ray sent my pin to me in. On August 31, 1949. It is pretty." This lady saved EVERYTHING.
I was confused about why he brought me this negative, until I took a closer look.
Look at that contortion! I'm going to try and make a print with it in the darkroom in the fall!
That scrapbook will get it's own post, it is from the 40's and pretty amazing! He got me a few Christmas things of course, I love the box that wreath is in! The little glass egg thing is from Rock City too.
I don't know why, but i LOVE measuring spoons. I can't pass them up. I keep them all in my kitchen and rotate them. This colorful set is really cute! And that is a snow globe for my collection.
Here is the wreath out of the box. It is pretty fragile!
And last but not least, look at these bowling towels! I LOVE THEM! Now I've got my own shoes, bag, ball, and the towels! Someone go bowling with me! Travis was going to use one of these to mop up his sweat at his new delivery job, but I told him to get real.
I'll show you the scrapbook tomorrow! It is a good one!

Happy Fourth!

I hope you had a fun fourth of July if you are here in the states! I had to work most of the day so I didn't get to go all out like I usually do. But I got home a little while before the sun went down, so the girls and I hung out in the back yard and waited for Travis to get the grill going.

They were suitably decked out of course.
Killing me!
Do you like our new tiny grill? Haha. Our old one got rusty outside because we don't have a garage to put it in. so we got this tiny one this year that we can take inside. Travis grilled some smart dogs, then we had baked beans and potato chips and arnold palmers! Perfect fourth of July dinner!
We watched the 21 Jump Street movie finally and it was actually much better than I was expecting! I LOVE the tv show and the movie was pretty funny. The Johnny Depp cameo was just PERFECT. I don't want to spoil it, but if you liked the show, you should see it. I made Travis rewind that part because it delighted me so much! Now I'm just killing time on the couch with the dogs waiting for all the fireworks to stop so they won't be scared.

My Booth: The Beginning

How is that for a dramatic title? Haha. I'm really excited for this new project, and I hope I do well. I'm keeping in mind that the summer is traditionally slow, and it is a learning experience. I'm giving myself a year to get it together! I'll try to be good at documenting it here so we can all learn together! I love reading Thriftcore about her adventures in reselling. Poppy is setting up a booth this month and I hope she'll document it too!
My booth is at the Tennessee Antique Mall! I chose this spot because not only is it close to my house, Jamie from Owl Really has a booth here and likes it. There are always a few people browsing whenever I go in, AND they have two boston terriers behind the counter.
Here is a before shot of my case! Number 912!
And after! I was so worried I wouldn't have enough stuff ready to go, but I actually had a few too many things to fit! Great! And I still have stuff to go through.
All of this stuff is stuff that I bought because I love it! But I really don't have room so I'm having to edit and keep only the things I really love. And I figure if I only buy stuff for it I love, then I won't be bummed if it doesn't sell. And I know there are some other weirdos like me who will like what I've got.
Look at that cute red microscope!
Those paint by numbers! I've been trying to find a spot for them since I bought them but they just don't work anywhere in my house. I priced them a little high because I like how they look in the back.

So there it is! Let me know what you think. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out and I already have some plans to improve. My biggest challenge was pricing. I think that will be something I have to learn through trial and error. So here is hoping I make some sales and at least make my booth rent back for the first month!

I almost forgot!

When I did my flea market finds post I forgot to include my favorite find of the day! This little nobody loves me pug has been taunting me! The antique mall where I have a case has three of them up on top of the refrigerator behind their front counter. I have asked a few times, but they are not for sale! I NEVER find vintage pug stuff (it is probably a bulldog but it looks puggy enough for me), so I'd been searching for one of these online with no luck. Then at the flea market I spotted this one on a table for just 4 bucks! I snatched him up immediately!
It is made of chalk, with a really shiney glaze over the color. I haven't had much luck finding anything about it online. I found a drawing of one. And a listing for one from 1917 (that was closed or I would buy it!) They remind me of Phyllis so much! She has the saddest little face.
I was going to try and do poodles only on my hutch in the dining room, but little nobody loves me puppy is up there for now. Isn't it awesome when you unexpectedly find something you have been looking for! Especially when it is just a couple of bucks! Now I just need a Christmas tree color wheel to materialize...

Prepping for my booth!

Things have been a little quiet around here, since I've been getting ready to set up my booth! I'm been cleaning and pricing and going through my bins of vintage to pull out the things that I could live without. It has been so hard! But I know I have to do it, because I don't have room to display and use all the stuff I have, much less bring home more!
Messes everywhere!
I even put this ledger I found a while ago to use! As much as I love computers, I'm not a big fan of spread sheets and such. I like hand writing stuff out. This ledger is perfect! And my favorite colors!
I don't think I ever took pictures of this awesome costume! it is from the 70's and in perfect condition! I hope someone gives it a good home!
And a little inspiration while I price.
I went and set up my case a little while ago. I'm pretty happy with how it came out! I will show you pictures soon!
